There are significant differences in the operation mode and characteristics between servo motors and ordinary motors. Firstly, servo motors usually operate at variable frequency, while ordinary motors often operate at positive frequency. The impact of frequency converters on ordinary motors is mainly reflected in efficiency, temperature rise, insulation strength, electromagnetic noise and vibration, adaptability to starting and braking, and low-speed cooling. The frequency converter will introduce harmonic voltage and current, leading to a decrease in motor efficiency, an increase in temperature rise, and posing challenges to insulation and motor stability.
In contrast, variable frequency motors focus on electromagnetic design and structural improvements to adapt to non sinusoidal power sources. Its characteristics include reducing resistance to reduce fundamental copper loss, increasing inductance to suppress harmonic currents, designing an unsaturated main magnetic circuit to deal with high-order harmonics, as well as using high-strength insulation, improving motor rigidity and vibration frequency, adopting independent ventilation cooling and shaft current protection measures. These characteristics make servo motors superior to ordinary motors in terms of performance and adaptability, especially in high-frequency and low-speed operation.
